Ways to Give

Contributions

donationsHospice Maui takes care of people in their homes and provides, without charge to those without insurance who cannot afford it, whatever is needed for that care. In addition we do our job in a way that exceeds the highest standards of hospice care. Because of these two factors, our care costs more than the insurance coverage we receive. Thus it is through the generosity of our contributors that we are able to maintain our exceptional program, year in and year out. Throughout our history we have enjoyed tremendous community support and that is what helps us continue to meet the need for our services. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and your gift is fully tax deductible since Hospice Maui has not provided you with any benefits in return for your contribution.

Memorial Donations

A memorial gift is a touching tribute to friends and relatives who have died. These gifts are an important part of our ongoing support. As with regular contributions, we thank the donor, and we also send an acknowledgment of the gift to the family or friends of the person in whose name the gift is made. Some people also honor living persons with gifts to Hospice Maui in the person’s name.

Hospice Maui is also a Maui United Way Agency, and a recipient of funds from the Pacific Area Combined Federal Campaign. Donations can be made and designated to Hospice Maui through both of these entities.

Gift Planning

A long-term goal at Hospice Maui is to build sustainable funding to help ensure the continuance and growth of our efforts for the Maui community. Gift Planning not only ensures that Hospice Maui receives a portion of your estate, but it also provides you and your family with a tax-efficient way to leave a lasting legacy.

Gifts of money, property, and stocks and bonds all benefit Hospice Maui, and these gifts can come in any size, any style, any package - we all have something to give. When we think about our wills and our legacy, what can seem like giving only a little can really mean a lot to an organization like ours. It can help us plant some "seeds" that will grow through time to strengthen us and help us assist our community. Following are some of the philanthropic solutions that can benefit Hospice Maui. Of course, anyone contemplating a donation to any nonprofit organization should first contact his or her financial advisors to set up the most beneficial solution for both their family and the nonprofit organization.

*Estate Planning: Gifts may be made through a person's will or trust, leaving a dollar amount or percentage of the estate
to Hospice Maui.

*Gifts of Appreciated Property: Gifts of stocks, bonds or other assets that have increased in value since the time of purchase
are exempt from capital gains and can be claimed as a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value.

*Charitable Trust: There are several types of charatable trusts such as the remainder trust that provide the donor with lifetime income and a charitable tax deduction.

*Life Insurance: A donor may choose to name Hospice Maui as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

*Real Estate: An outright gift of residential or commercial real estate provides the donor with an income tax deduction based
on the appraised fair market value of the property. A donor may choose to continue living in the home during their lifetime
and will pay taxes, insurance and maintenance. They will receive a substantial income tax deduction the year the gift is made.

*Other: Donor-Advised Funds and Family Foundations.

In-Kind Donations

ways_to_giveHospice Maui will accept vehicles that are clean, running and legal with a current Safety Inspection Sticker and Registration. Due to an Internal Revenue Service change in the laws governing vehicles over $5,000.00, the donor can no longer take the Blue Book value as a donation. Once the vehicle is sold, Hospice Maui will send the donor a letter stating the amount for which it was sold. This is the amount that can be claimed as a donation.

We will accept miscellaneous equipment and supplies such as wheelchairs, egg crates, shower chairs and benches, commodes, canes and walkers, etc. We also accept unused items such as bed-liners, adult diapers and briefs, lotions and ointments, gauze, no-rinse shampoo, and other medical supplies for patient use. Donated equipment may be loaned out to Hospice Maui patients and injured or ill members of the community. All other medical supplies are used by our staff for our patients.

From time-to-time Hospice Maui can receive household appliances and other goods that are clean and in good working condtion. Occasionally we will take items for a holiday or yard sale, but only when we are planning one of these events. The events would be advertised and donations would be accepted according to time constraints within the ad.
