Volunteers

Hospice Maui volunteers are the physical, emotional and spiritual backbone of Hospice Maui. They are the ones who do everything from patient caregiving to bereavement calls to families; to helping with fundraising, mailings and at events; to assisting with office work and cleaning equipment; to actively serving on the Board of Directors and providing the guidance needed to see the agency succeed now and in the future. They are an integral part of all that we do and no matter where they serve, our volunteers serve with their hearts.

Patient Care Volunteers

Patient care volunteers give of their time, their energy, and their compassion. Their assistance runs the gamut from helping feed patients, taking them to appointments, sitting quietly with them and just being present, reading to them, doing light shopping or errands, giving respite to the caregivers, and much, much more. It takes a very special, self-effacing person to provide these much-needed, meaningful services.

Bereavement Volunteers

A bereavement volunteer maintains a close working relationship with the loved ones of the person who has died. For about a year after the death, these volunteers call family members regularly, send cards, and do what they can to help ease the transition from the heartbreak of the death of a loved one to a renewal of hope and peace.

Training

Patient care volunteers receive 30 hours of training. The excellent training they receive is rewarding, yet is emotionally intense. For numerous Hospice Maui volunteers, the experience is the beginning of a life-long passion for volunteering. In addition to the initial 30 hours of training, our bereavement volunteers complete an additional 12 hours of training.
