General Information

Compassion, Care, & Relief

At the end of our lives, we are each entitled to care that relieves pain and symptoms.  We each deserve to be cared for by those who understand the emotional and spiritual turmoil that dying sometimes brings.  We each deserve the opportunity to express our hopes and fears, and to be heard, honored, and supported.  And, we are each entitled to live our last weeks and days in the setting of our choice, treated according to our beliefs and values.

Hospice care is quality, compassionate care that maximizes the comfort and dignity of those with a progressive, incurable disease, and who are probably in the last months of life.  Hospice Maui provides expert symptom control and pain management.  But, unlike other forms of care which focus only on the patient's physical needs, we also provide emotional and spiritual support for the patient and loved ones, as well as bereavement support for a entire year after the death.

Memorial and Giving Opportunities

Although health insurance covers much of the cost of providing hospice care, it is through the generosity of our community that we are able to continue.  Your generosity includes contributions in memory of those who have died, contributions through Maui United Way, direct contributions, and large gifts from the estates and trusts of our benefactors.

Hospice Maui's Library

Hospice Maui maintains a lending library of books and tapes on every virtually every aspect of death and dying.  Grieving, dealing with loss, life after death, and preparing for death are just a few of the subjects covered.  We have books about cancer and a good selection of books for children to help them deal with death and grief.  You're welcome to borrow books for a two-week period.  Our book section is in the reception area of our office and our Administrative Assistant Cindy will be happy to help you.
